If you're in need of a GVM upgrade in Queensland, look no further than Dr Tim's Auto Engineering. We are qualified to perform GVM upgrades under the LS11 Modification Code, which allows us to increase the carrying capacity of your vehicle. It can be difficult to find an engineer who can provide the right advice for your specific situation, but at Dr Tim's Auto Engineering, we are not affiliated with any suspension kit suppliers, so you can trust that our recommendations are unbiased.

Our top priority is to find the best solution to meet your needs. We work with approved suppliers to seamlessly complete GVM upgrades for our clients, or we can work directly with you if you have already installed suspension or prefer a direct connection. In some cases, the addition of bull bars, spare tire carriers, winches, auxiliary tanks, dual batteries, or heavy tools may require an increase in load-carrying capacity. It's important to keep in mind that the GVM, or Gross Vehicle Mass, is the maximum weight a vehicle can be when fully loaded. This includes fuel, passengers, cargo, and any additional accessories.

Operating a vehicle beyond its legal load limits can result in fines and potential litigation, and may even void your insurance in the event of an accident. As a business owner or manager, upgrading your GVM can also help protect you from Occupational Health and Safety violations and employee negligence claims. In Queensland, GVM upgrades for in-service vehicles (those already registered) are approved. GVM upgrades under the Second Stage of Manufacture (SSM) for vehicles prior to initial registration are also approved. However, GCM upgrades (Gross Combination Mass, or the maximum weight of a vehicle and trailer combination) for in-service vehicles are not approved, while GCM upgrades under SSM for vehicles prior to initial registration are approved.

The current situation in Queensland for GVM and GCM upgrades is:

GVM Upgrades of In Service Vehicles

(currently registered vehicles)

APPROVED.

GVM Upgrades under SSM

(Second Stage of Manufacture) to vehicles PRIOR to initial registration

APPROVED.

GCM Upgrade to In Service Vehicles

(currently registered vehicles)

NOT APPROVED.

GCM Upgrade under SSM to vehicles PRIOR to initial registration

APPROVED.

At Dr Tim's Auto Engineering, we understand the importance of staying within legal load limits and the risks associated with exceeding them. That's why we are dedicated to helping our clients get the most out of their vehicles with our GVM upgrade services. Contact us to learn more about how a GVM upgrade can benefit you.
